One important part of the LISTEN [Miyagi Haikus] project will be poems written by poets around the world in response to the music of the Miyagi Haikus.

These poems will also be recorded as readings, to be used in an installation in Berlin; after the end of the Berlin project, these readings and the poems themselves will be documented here.

Poems by Sandeep Bhagwati

cherry blossoms drift
in tsunami’s deadly wake
spring’s heartless return

kirschblüten treiben
in tsunami’s totenreich
herzloser frühling

empty landscape now
houses abandoned in haste
Geiger counters click

leeres gelände
häuser, hastig verlassen

shipwreck on airport
streets destroyed by wild seas while
far was…is the shore

schiffbruch am tower
autobahn in wüster see
weit war… ist der strand

beauty is order.
chaos and fear know no grace
yet – there is music…

ordnung sei schönheit,
anmutslos chaos und furcht.
zusammen: musik
