Récompensée comme meilleure production internationale au Amsterdam Fringe Festival 2015 et meilleure nouvelle performance au SummerWorks Performance Festival 2016, Anthropologies imaginaires est un solo performatif mêlant improvisations vocales, projections documentaires et jeu théâtral. À la façon d’un reportage parodique, de faux spécialistes commentent la musique et les moeurs de populations fictives. Les explorations vocales de Dharmoo s’inspirent de traditions insolites ou isolées, collectées tout autour du globe. Il en résulte un paysage sonore où se côtoient le folklore imaginaire et les techniques expérimentales, qui remet en question les notions de standardisation et de normalité, et souligne la diversité des modes d’expressions d’une culture à une autre. Une démonstration humoristique et dérangeante du post-colonialisme, du post-exotisme, de l’extinction culturelle, de la globalisation, du racisme normalisé et de l’appropriation culturelle. /// Acclaimed as the best international production at the Amsterdam Fringe Festival 2015, and best new performance at the SummerWorks Performance Festival 2016, Anthropologies imaginaires is a solo performance merging vocal improvisations, documentary projections and theatrical acting. As a parody of journalistic reporting, fake specialists comment on the music and cultural practices of various fictional peoples. The vocal explorations of Dharmoo find their inspiration in bizarre isolated musical traditions from around the world. What results is a sonic landscape, in which imaginary folklore and technical experimentation merge. This juxtaposition calls into question notions of standardization and normality, as well as underscores the diversity of self-expression from one culture to another. That which results is a light-hearted yet disturbing demonstration of post-colonialism, post exoticism, cultural extinction, globalization, normalized racism and cultural appropriation.
