IF Ensemble: Indian Tour

India (Delhi, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Bhopal, Pune, Trivandrum, Katmandu)

March 25, 2013 ― April 20, 2013

IF stands for Imaginary Folklore. It’s an exploration in acoustic sound and sweaty embodied playing. A counterpoint to all my very electronic activities. Starring Florian Guibert (flute) Mauro Sarachian (cello) and Otso Lähdeoja (guitar & compositions). http://if3.eu/

For the spring 2013 the trio will be working with Alexandre Berthier, a french visual artist, in order to create an audio-visual performance for a tour across India in the Alliance Francaises Network. Video images, scenography and live music are mixed together, forming an intricate expression between light and sound. The show will be based on live music performance, semi-transparent projection screens for creating video and light effects. All this will be tailored into a custom stage set easily mounted in various settings across India.

The project seeks to create a cultural exchange between Indian and western culture. The notion of gesture is the central axis of the project’s artistic content. Indian artists, craftsmen and workers are invited to work for the project and their hand gestures filmed. The video projections will create a parallel between the local gestures and western gestures. This parallel will also be visible and audible on stage, as the group intends to invite an Indian musician to join them on the tour. The project will explore the similarities and the differences of the two cultures, as well as the possibility of them joining together to create a strong artistic expression.
