On Oct 15, 2013 Sandeep Bhagwati will give the keynote address at the symposion “Rencontres du jazz et de la musique contemporaine” (Jazz and Contemporary Music – Meeting Points”) at the University of Toulouse, France. In it, he will ask, amongst other questions:  Are we finally leaving the eurological millenium of score-based music ? Where can we go from here ? Do musical genre distinctions such as “jazz and contemporary music” still make any sense when computers can compose complex music in real time ? What precious insights into the inner workings of music making did the scores of yore afford us – and how can we use them to create deeply moving comprovisations?
