DIETER MACK : CONTEMPORARY MUSIC IN INDONESIA

In Indonesia, musicians often ask themselves whether or not a local contemporary music scene actually exists. Immediately followed by the second question: does this contemporary music arise from indigenous traditions or is it – like so many other things – an imported product from the Western world? This lecture investigates some unique historical developments in that fascinating country, and presents some new works by young composers, both those who emerge from local traditions as well as those trained in Western music – and some who mix both.
