The inaugural official concert of the newly-founded Ensemble Extrakte, of which Elke Moltrecht and I are the artistic directors: a new experimental ensemble consisting of musicians from many different musical traditions – from Syrian oud to Berlin electronic dance music, from contemporary western art music to Indian Dhrupad, from Chinese traditional music to Blues etc. In our programmes we want to transcend the focus on world music, and instead look for new points of reference that are new for all of us, focusing on a common musical goal and moving towards it from our diverse heritages. In our concert “Raumgeflechte [Space Textures]” we will experiment with the different ways in which musical traditions use the performance space as a musical condition and parameter – nearness, distance, focus and distribution of space and music.
