matralab explore ii: ALTERNATE PRACTICES

matralab

October 15, 2014

5pm-7pm

On Wednesday Oct 15 from 5pm to 7pm (17h-19h), matralab will again host another explore meeting.

ALTERNATE PRACTICES

Aaron Finbloom, currently a PhD candidate in Interdisciplinary Humanities, asks us and himself how philosophical dialogue can be artistically structured and playfully improvised. Departing from ideas in Heidegger, Gadamer, Flusser, Deleuze, and with a background in both philosophy and music, he asks if and how games, booklets, audio guides, dance maps, performative lectures, therapeutic and ritual contexts could afford us alternate ways of practicing philosophy. He will tell us about his experiences with his experiments to date, and invites a discussion on further possible trajectories and possible collaborations.

Niko Solorio, currently MFA candidate at the Transart Institute (New York/Berlin) and living in California, will be visiting matralab for two weeks from Oct 15-29. A visual artist, he has recently experimented with diaries and memory protocols, but also with singing/songwriting as diverse artistic practices. A short overview about his recent work will be followed by the questions he brings along for his time at matralab and beyond, on his path towards his MFA thesis project next year.

About matralab explore:

matralab explore is an informal meeting among matralab associates and friends where one or two of us talk about a research project, a composition or a text or a work of art or a software that they are currently working on (no finished work) and for which they would welcome some productive feedback from the diverse matralab community.

As space is limited, please RSVP to matralab@gmail.com before noon on Wednesday 15th.

If possible, please bring some munchies and/or a bottle (juice/water/wine etc.)
