Mise-En-Musique Workshop with Julian Klein @ Concordia Music Department
Concordia Music Department, MB 8.265
February 26, 2015 ― February 28, 2015
10 - 17 h daily
matralab guest artist Julian Klein leads the Montreal ensemble Ciao Rhino and selected Concordia students through a brief introduction to his mise-en-musique technique. In three days, the group will collaboratively create a public music theatre performance presented on March 1.
Klein developed mise-en-musique with fellow musicians and theatre artists in the interdisciplinary art group “a rose is.” The technique combines compositional and improvisational elements on an imaginary acoustical stage, and is based upon principles of impulse-response, resonance, foreground-background, harmonic space, and the shaping of sounds and structures into a Gestalt.
The workshop will take place from Feburary 26 to 28, 10 am to 5 pm daily, in the Concordia Music Department. Observer access is possible. Please RSVP to matralab@gmail.com if you’d like to observe the workshop.
Julian Klein is an interdisciplinary composer and theatre director, as well as the Director of the Institute for Artistic Research Berlin and an editor of the Journal for Artistic Research.
