[PARIS] WITHOUT COMPUTERS – Anthropocene and Digital Imaginaries
April 08, 2019
Conference with Matthias Fritsch & concert with Vincent Royer
April 8, Ecole Nationale Supérieure, Paris, 45 rue d’Ulm, Salle Dussan
The Postdigital research group at the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris is hosting a colloquium examining our future existence on this planet in the case that computers disappear again. With Concordia colleague Matthias Fritsch, Sandeep will be giving a talk on the perception of temporalities in anthropocenic scenarios and how maybe the praxis of listening to polyphonic music might help us humans to understand and inhabit the vastly different time-scales of geological processes vs. human attention span.
The same evening, in the same building, but in the library hall, Vincent Royer, viola & voice, will perform his solo version of Sandeep’s score “Miyagi Haikus” – a piece written as a reaction on the 2011 tsunami in Japan. He will intersperse his readings with selected poetry by Ranjit Hoskote, Yang Lian, Monika Rinck, Christian Filips, Yoko Tawada and Lance Olsen – poems they wrote in reaction to his music of the Miyagi Haikus.
