River / Rivière
Musee d’Art Contemporain de Baie – Saint – Paul (QC)
October 27, 2012
Montréal artist Lenka Novakova, who is of Czech origin, invites the visitor to undertake a resolutely contemporary exploration of image and lighting through a truly amazing installation. While strolling among huge conical and luminous suspended structures that screen video images from various projectors, the visitor will appreciate and experience an immersive scenic environment that is both poetic and highly technological.
Entitled River, the work allows for a variety of symbolic and aesthetic approaches. On the one hand, Lenka Novakova views the river as a metaphor for the stream of consciousness as well as the stream of time which moves on, whirls and passes. On the other hand, the artist utilises the illuminated structures and the interplay of light and shadow to interrogate our perception of and our relationship with the tangible and the intangible.
